Product Details

A natural Amethyst cluster sourced from Zambia's Southern Province — a locality increasingly recognised among collectors for producing some of the most intensely coloured Amethyst on the African continent.

Geological profile:

Zambian Amethyst forms within hydrothermal veins and vugs hosted in metamorphic basement rock. The purple colouration results from iron impurities within the quartz lattice subjected to natural gamma irradiation from surrounding rock over geological time. Zambian material is distinguished by its characteristically deep, saturated purple — often with reddish secondary flashes — a direct result of higher iron content and specific irradiation conditions that differ from the geological environments producing Brazilian or Uruguayan Amethyst.

Specimen highlights:

  • Multiple terminated crystal points growing from a shared matrix — displaying natural cluster formation
  • Deep, rich purple with the warm reddish undertone characteristic of Zambian material
  • Natural and untreated — no heat enhancement, no colour manipulation

Why collectors value Zambian Amethyst:

  • Zambian deposits produce Amethyst with a colour profile distinct from the dominant South American material — darker, warmer, and often more saturated per carat
  • Quality clusters with well-formed terminations and strong colour consistency are becoming less common as accessible deposits are worked through
  • An essential African locality piece — Zambia remains one of the continent's most important Amethyst sources and a strong provenance addition to any mineral collection
